It's a new floor, baby!!

Well, it took us about 5 times longer than we thought with 3 extra bags of mortar and 1 extra bag of grout to get it here, but we now have a new ceramic tile floor in our living room. Since we are not professionals, it it not perfect, but well worth the effort. Now maybe my elbows will heal up.

I will post another picture when the living room is organized back the way it should be and the trim is back up. I will have to mop this floor a few more times until it shines.

Good for you, Lance Bass!

Lance Bass Admits He is Gay

I was never a real big fan of *NSYNC, but I always have to give kudos to anyone that liberates themselves by embracing and admitting who and what they are.

This above all:
To thine own self, be true,
for it must follow as dost the night the day
that canst not then be false to any man.

Ouch, my elbows hurt!

We have been busy working thoughout the week mudding and painting, and this weekend we FINALLY finished our living room walls. They are now a beautiful shade of desert sand.

Now, we are laying the tile floor. If anyone remembers my previous blog, you know that we replaced our nasty, ancient living room carpet for wood laminate. It's a shame, but the living room subfloor, with all it's dips and valleys, just didn't work well with the laminate. We have taken that floor back up and will put it in our dining room.

With all this work, I seem to have a touch of tendonitis in BOTH elbows, hence the name of this post.

Mitch Albom's Take on the Stem Cell Veto

This morning, while reading my morning news on Newzjunky, I came across this editorial by Mitch Albom of the Detroit Free Press on the stem cell veto. It's a great take on how stubborn Dubya is on this issue.

Home Improving

I come to you on this beautiful Friday afternoon in the North Country spattered in white primer paint and wearing a band-aid on my toe. Yes, I am working on my house again. Over the course of the week, my oldest son and I have painted our doors in brilliant colors as well as mudding our new drywall sheets.

I have realized a few things.

1) Apparently, I do ok on mudding drywall except in a spot where it is REALLY noticeable when I do mess up. The seam really didn't look bad at first, but after that first coat of primer, I knew I was in trouble. After a brief instance of thinking I might be able to cover it with a picture, I came to the conclusion that there isn't a picture made that can cover a visible ceiling to floor seam. So I guess it is off to Home Depot for another tub of mud.

2) Painting ceilings is hard work, especially when said ceilings are textured, hence the splatter.

3) I am accident prone when I do home improvement. I have almost tripped over wires at least 5 times, but the kicker was when I almost fell into an uncovered floor register for the second time. This was after having fallen in once, thus the band-aid. The register has since been replaced...LOL.

Bush Vetos Stem Cell Bill

Bush Vetoes Stem Cell Bill

No real surprise for Dubya has been threatening the veto even since this bill started it way through. Nice photo op with the kids, eh?

I wish Bush had as much concern for the value of life for those that are already born, mainly the troops in Iraq and Afghanistan, or the poor and uninsured, or all the individuals that could benefit from stem cell research.

Not a chance. Dubya will just continue to have concern on issues that benefit him the most, making him look like the morally just person that he is not.

Oops!! Was that the thermostat wire?

We spent the better part of the day hanging sheet rock in our living room and hallway. The last thing I heard him say before he asked the question that became the title of this post was "Do we have a phone jack back here?" I said no, I heard a snip of the Leatherman, then the oops.

Good thing my husband knows how to splice wire. :)

Taking it in baby steps - House Cleaning

I used to Spring Clean and spend my weekends doing it. This past year, however, I never got around to Spring Cleaning due to our homeschool schedule and the need to relax and chill on the weekends. Since we are on summer break, I find that I am able to get to what I didn't in the Spring.....but I am doing it in baby steps.

Call it the allure of our new pool or the fact that my youngest is now riding a bike, thus allowing us to go on family bike rides now, but I still don't wish to spend a day Spring Cleaning so I have devised this plan to do a little everyday. Yesterday, I cleaned off all the shelves and the area around our microwave (our near-the-door-catch-all-spot). Today, I cleaned out the cabinets, lazy susan, and the top of the refrigerator. Tomorrow, I will find something else to do.

Why am I boring you all with this? Because I am relaying it as a tip to get things done without taking much of the day up doing it. I would rather play with my kids than clean and if it doesn't get done all at once, who cares right?

Wow...I have much to learn!

My old blog was pretty easy to customize, but it looks like I need to reteach myself html codes for this one. It took me quite a while to get my link to work for my art-agent.com page, but eventally I figured it out. Ahhh, the wonders of html.....have one extra character and poof!

When I have more time, I will bring over the links from my other page, so please bear with me.

Welcome to the new home of Aimless Wanderings of a Fretful Mind

I have decided to move my blog over to a new place. As the name entails, just about anything will end up here. I have left the old Aimless Wanderings blog (wiccadragonfly.bravejournal.com) up in case anyone wishes to view previous posts.
