Right with you, Alix

From today's "Stone Soup" comic strip.......

I feel like Val from Stone Soup when it comes to the holidays. I find that with every year that goes by, I lose a little bit of the joy that used to come with the season. For many of us, it is the stress of wanting to give our kids "a good Christmas", but what is a good Christmas. Is it the Wii's, the Guitar Heros, the Rockband games, more and more and more, or is the the love we give them, the guidance we try to give, or the simple presence of being there for them when they need us?

The Page - by Mark Halperin - TIME

The Page - by Mark Halperin - TIME

Wow...a "these comments were not authorized or condoned by the campaign in any way" apology. That didn't take long.

Guess what, perverts!

I was checking my site meter today and I noticed something that disgusted me. On October 29th, I blogged about my concern over costumes of a questionable nature being marketed to young girls. As I checked my site meter, I noticed hits from the Bronx, Germany, Poland, the UK, Saudi Arabia, and so on. When I checked the details, I found that they had been brought to my blog by google searching "sexy little girls". Apparently in my post I mentioned that these costumes were too sexy for little girls and it brought these perverts here.

Well guess what, perverts. I have removed the post and may you all rot in hell for your perversion. I pray that you never lay a hand on a little girl and if you have or ever do, I hope she comes back to castrate you.

Clinton N.H. Official Warns Obama Will Be Attacked on Drug Use The Trail washingtonpost.com

Funny how the Clinton campaign says that the Republicans will use Obama's admitted past drug use against him in as a dirty trick.....when in fact the Clinton campaign just got dirtier by not even waiting for Republican to do it.

Shaheen asks the question of why Democrats are leaning more towards the newbies, Obama and Edwards when there are more experienced candidates such as Clinton, Biden, and Dodd. I think I have an answer. Maybe it is because there is a want for change in this country. We see what the current elected officials are doing to this country. We heard the past promises by Democratic leaders that once they were in charge that change would come....and it did to a point, but they didn't follow through completely. Maybe in the new guys there is a hope that they will stick to what they promise.

Gamers will 'w00t' over word of the year - Internet- msnbc.com

Gamers will 'w00t' over word of the year - Internet- msnbc.com

I am not sure how I think about this. Having a great fondness for reading and the written word, I don't think I am a big fan of words created by letters and numbers, such as what you see in games and in text messages.

I am getting increasingly frustrated by the shortening of words lately and what gets me is that it is only the last syllable that is dropped....like it is just too hard to say that last syllable....like we are so busy as a society that we simply can't be bothered to finish a word. In case you are wondering what I am yammering on about, just watch a few commercials on the television. Listen to the announcer talk about a low closing cost refi (instead of refinance), Rachel Ray talk about Dunkin Donuts coffee being delish (instead of delicious), or one of many people that talk about their vaca (instead of vacation). It makes me grumble anytime I see or hear it. The great writers (Twain, Whitman, Dickinson) are probably rolling over in their graves every time these words are said.

Maybe I am getting old. I am going to be one of those old women saying "In my day, people finished their words!"

Church bulletin warns of 'evil' film - The Golden Compass

I am not going to deny that the author of "The Golden Compass" is an atheist nor will I deny that he has been quoted in the past as being anti-Catholic. I will not say that I believe in what he says considering I believe that all persons should practice the spirituality that is right for them, should it be Catholicism, Judaism, Muslim, or Pagan....or no belief at all, as long as it does not hurt others in the process.

Having watched the movie "The Golden Compass" but not reading the book yet, I cannot say how watered down Phillip Pullman's intent was. The movie seems to have rather vague references to the Catholic Church except for the bad guys looking like bishops and the bad guys being called the Magisterium. You see, I am not a Catholic and did not know that the Magisterium was the teaching authority of the Catholic Church until today when I read it in an article. I suppose the fear of the Church is that no matter how sanitized the message is in the movies, it will bring people to read the books, which has the harder anti-Catholic message.

But what does a boycott do? In my opinion, if a person finds that they want to convert to a new religion because of what they read in a fantasy novel, then that person was not strong in their faith to begin with. Is this a true case of being concerned for the attack on the church, or is it guilt on the part of the Catholic Church for some of the scandals and harm that they have in fact had a part in. Could it be that some people have left the Catholic Church for far bigger reasons than a fantasy novel? Has "The Golden Compass" become another scapegoat for the Church? Wouldn't it be easier to blame a book or an author for your troubles than the very foundation of the trouble itself?

To me, this isn't any different than the ruckus that the Harry Potter books and movies brought about. How many bulletins and boycotts were called for those when people believed that the Pagans put Harry Potter out to lure kid's into witchcraft (which, for the record as a Pagan, we don't do that).

If one blindly follows a book, it is no better than one blindly following a person or a religion.

I think I am leaning towards Barack Obama....

There have been quite a few reasons why I have made this choice. I suppose that Hillary's tendency to flip from one stance to another is on the same topic is one of them. I think I still am angry at her for the display she put on back before the Iraq War started and I listened to her for almost 20 minutes sound like she was against the war, yet in the last two minutes said she was going to vote for it. I was so mad I wrote her and told her that her actions prompted me to go to the Independent Party. Her Kindergarten Cop act didn't help her case with me either.

*Sigh* It's going to be a long year, isn't it?

Honey Beats Meds at Soothing Kids' Cough - MSN Health & Fitness - Cold and Flu

Well, how about that....seems that, in some cases, the natural cures ARE better for you. With some of the fiascos that have come out of the Food and Drug Administration in past years, this is refreshing news.

Grrr....the Patriots won another one.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
Last night I didn't even watch Monday Night Football as I had assumed that the Patriots would pretty much shred the Ravens anyway. Besides, I was having a blast watching "Tin Man" on Sci-Fi. After "Tin Man" went off, I turned it to ESPN to check the score and was extremely gleeful to find that the Ravens....the freakin' Ravens, were BEATING the Patriots with 8 minutes to go. Needless to say, my plans to go to bed at 11pm were changed.

Sigh....alas, my dreams of watching the Patriots have their asses handed to them were squashed after watching an extremely poorly placed timeout on the Ravens part and the final touchdown that Jabar Gaffney squeeked in.

I can not stand the Patriots....please, I beg a team to hand them a loss if only to stop the commentators from gushing over Tom Brady!
