This week in the news.....I am exhausted!!

I don't know about you all, but this week's events have left me mentally exhausted. What a trip it has been!!

My thoughts on this whole week....total drama! I am left feeling this morning like we as private citizens are being held hostage by the political whims of Washington.

I am going to admit something....I didn't watch President Bush on Wednesday. After having kept track of the talks in Washington about the bailout and then John McCain's theatrics about the debate, I just couldn't stomach Dubya. I chose instead to see if Jay and Grant could find some ghosts at the Buffalo Central Terminal. In my defense though, I did catch and read up on what he had to say. Essentially, he was asking for another blank check, much as he did with the war in Iraq. He wants us as taxpayers to bail out these companies that let greed and probably corruption lead to their demise.

Let me tell you my opinion on this....I think this bailout is bulls*^t and I will tell you why. If I wasn't able to pay for my mortgage, or for my car, or for my business, due to bad business practices, or for just being plain greedy, should I expect the government to bail my ass out? No, I don't think so. Even a law abiding, hard working citizen would not be able to rely on the government to bail them out should they be in danger of losing everything. What is the assurance that this bailout will even help the economy get better?

Look...in the past few years I have watched gas prices climb, I have watched my grocery bill go up, insurance premiums are getting higher, it's getting harder and harder to make a dollar stretch, unemployment is climbing, and everyday we pump more and more money into Iraq and the contracts that it employs. Now the government is asking the American people, the working class and those that are already struggling, to feel sorry for theses big business corporations and bail them out? How completely clueless can Washington be?

Take Amir Taheri's NY Post article with a grain of salt, people...this is what I found!!

Well, there I was reading posts at the Jefferson County Web Board, when I saw the thread titled "Obama shows his true colors!" It was referring to a NY Post article from Amir Taheri alleging that Barack Obama stalled troop withdrawals from Iraq so that when he is President, troops coming home will look like his doing. The allegations are shocking and if they were true, it would be outrageous for anyone, Dem or Republican, to do so.

But all is not what it seems. This is my bet....in the next few weeks, the fact will come out and this will be just one more "swiftboating" attempt to undermine Obama. Why do I make this bet, you say? 1) Because the NY Post to me is more of a gossip rag with sensationalist journalism...kind of a Fox News of the newspaper world and 2) Taheri has a history of making false allegations. Here's another source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amir_Taheri

I know that I make no secret that I am an Obama supporter, but I don't wish to see ANY candidate, Democrat or Republican, derailed for half-truths or lies. I felt this sort of outrage when Dubya did it to John McCain in 2000. It's not right for a candidate to fall because of a lie. Now if this was proven true, I would eat my words, but until I am proven wrong, I am behind Obama.

Letter to the Editor

I wrote a letter to the Editor of the Watertown Daily Times regarding the latest string of ads from the McCain campaign. I also sent it to a few papers a little outside the Watertown area and a few national papers. Should it not make it though, I will print it here.

Dirty Politics from the McCain campaign
Over the course of the past couple of days, I have seen the dirty politics of the McCain campaign. Using the same "swift boating" attacks that hurt John Kerry in 2004 and his own campaign in 2000, John McCain is using half-truths and dow nright lies to stall the momentum of the Obama campaign. Just in the course of the last few days I have seen his "Maverick" ad that suggests that Sarah Palin said no to the Bridge to Nowhere, even though in the beginning, she was definitely for it. I have seen his ad that suggests that Barack Obama is for comprehensive sex-education for kindergartners when in fact it was age appropriate education meant to protect children from predators. Now, as I was flipping through channels, I see that the McCain campaign has an ad suggesting that Obama is a sexist because he used a phrase that John McCain himself used just last year. Might I add that he put this out the night before both candidates took a day off of campaigning in honor of 9-11.
Frankly, I expected better of John McCain. What I fear the most is that the public will eat this all up, just as they did the ludicrous book by Jerome Corsi named Obama Nation, another example of half-truths and lies. This book made the Best Seller List!
I implore everyone to do their own research. Don't base your vote on 30 second soundbites that may or may not be true. Be an informed voter that actually looks at the positions on the issues of both candidates. Don't be swayed by dirty politics, no matter what side is doing it. Enough is enough!

So we will see if it makes it or not. I suggest that anyone that isn't sure who is telling the truth to check out www.factcheck.org. They are pretty balanced there, calling out anyone, Republican or Democrat, that isn't getting their facts straight or are stretching the truth. And yes, before anyone comments to me with "hey, your man is there, too", I will just let you know that I KNOW that. I wish to help everyone become better informed in this election.

Olbermann: Republicans Hijacked 9/11

The Swift Boating starts.......

Well, I see the Republicans are crying foul and their followers are running with it. First it was the "lipstick on a pig" comment from Obama (a comment John McCain has used himself as have thousands of others)and then the Biden comment on stem cell research that has the McCain camp all in an outrage. "How dare you attack our most Blessed Saint Sarah of the Perpetual Moose Hunt!", they say!

Please...for someone that is supposed to be so tough and outspoken, the McCain camp is doing enough talking for her. Looks like she might need to grow a thicker skin if this kind of stuff offends her.

Also, this is a great example of how something small can be blown up into something monumental. The Right Wingers have this technique down to a tee!

Let's hope that their attempts to undermine the real issues doesn't work like it did in 2004.

More media bullcrap - Oops! Obama says 'my Muslim faith' :: CHICAGO SUN-TIMES :: Barack Obama

Oops! Obama says 'my Muslim faith' :: CHICAGO SUN-TIMES :: Barack Obama

As soon as I saw this interview and Obama said "my Muslim faith", I knew that the wingnuts out there would have a field day with it. I even looked to my sweetie and said, "Wait for it!" I saw the interview and saw the comment in its full context. What he was referring to is the rumors of his "Muslim faith". And he said that no, John McCain isn't talking about my Muslim faith meaning that John McCain isn't perpetuating the myth. It's just that simple, but it doesn't look that simple when the clip is edited to just show the comment.

I have taken the liberty of showing the interview and the comment in FULL CONTEXT. You see, if you see the whole story, it doesn't really work for the Right, does it?

It's ridiculous what ignorance and fear does to people.

This is what I call a complete WTF moment from the RNC.

I saw this and I thought "WTF!?" This video couldn't be any more fear mongering and so transparently using the dead for their purpose. "We remember that day....buildings burning, bodies falling....."

If the Democrats did anything REMOTELY similar to this, the right-wingers would be ALL over this. I am so mad at this I could spit nails. What also gets me is that many people are going to eat this crap up like it was honey covered biscuits.

Just when you thought I was going to let my politics slide....

I know I have been scarce. I also know that I have not had a lot to say here on this blog about politics and the Election. Fear not, dear readers...it's only here that I have been silent and it's only because I have not had much time to blog. Now I have a minute and will give you the condensed version of how I have been feeling.

I watched the Democratic convention last week every day that I didn't have to work. When I did have to work, I found the speeches I missed on Youtube.

Teddy Kennedy was an inspiration, speaking at the convention against doctors order. His vow to make it to see President Obama sworn in brought tears to my eyes.

Michelle Obama was graceful and eloquent. She spoke from the heart and brought to all us the point that she and Barack are not too far from the rest of us. That we can come from working class families and still make a difference.

Hillary's speech was phenomenal. Anyone who saw it knows that I need not say more except "No way, no how, no McCain!"

Bill Clinton's speech hit it out of the park. Not only did he talk up Obama very well, he also spoke of how strong and able Joe Biden will be as VP. Staying true to form, it was reported that Bill was supposed to speak on foreign security, but he felt that he should speak more about the economy. He did both beautifully.

Joe Biden was great! He made me laugh, he made me think, and he spoke like Joe Biden speaks...to the point.

And finally, what can I say about Barack Obama's speech. It was hopeful, it was thought-provoking, and it showed the eloquence that we need in a President. Being on the anniversary of the "I Have a Dream" speech, one has to wonder if MLK, Jr. was looking down with pride. I have not been this hopeful about a candidate since I voted for the first time for Clinton first term. I remember holding my baby son, who is now 15, and feeling a sense of hope for our country. I feel that same hope now. I believe that Barack Obama, with Joe Biden's help, can bring us out of this eight nightmare called the Bush Administration and bring us forward into a new era. This campaign is historic and this campaign is hopeful.

I feel I have work to do for the next two months. I feel a sense of energy to get out and organize...get the word out. The first thing I have to do is get a new Obama yard sign because the one I have been displaying since February is missing. I am not talking "blown away in a storm" missing, I am talking "taken out of my yard" missing. Stay tuned....maybe there is a Debate Watching Party in the future of Northern NY.

Well, poo.....(football related bummer)

The very first Giants regular season game is tonight......and I have to work!!

Lieberman's a troll

I know I haven't posted on this blog too much, but since mistruths can hurt this election, I have to post them when they present themselves, just as I did with the Obama myths link from snopes.com.
It's not surprising that Lieberman would say this at RNC convention. He's pretty much been a mouthpiece for them for the last 8 years.
